Wooden Leg
20”x16” oil on canvas panel. 2021-22
The painting was based on another historic black and white photo that had been digitally colorized. Wooden Leg is the name of the fellow in the picture and interestingly, he did not have a wooden artificial limb.
When I chose the reference photo, I was looking to work on something that differed a bit from my norm. I liked the idea of blurring the background but leaving enough detail that you could still make out the horse and land. Not only did I find the photo of quite intriguing, I also found lots of info about him online. There is too much info to list here, but check out his Wikipedia to learn more.
