16” x 12” oil on wood panel, 2024.
I am constantly on the search for interesting reference material to use for paintings. While majority of my references come from old photo sources, such as the library of Congress, sometimes I find an inspiration in something newer. The photo I used for this painting came from a fairly recent edition of Italian Vogue. I thought it was cool because it gives a 70s French vibe.
I wanted to try something a bit different, so I painted the lady’s sweater in a flat dark, and for the portions that I wanted to lighten, I took a piece of sandpaper to it. I think it turned out cool.
